Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate installation by improving reliability while widening spacing permissive range, by using an element, obtained by arranging magnetic substances of high magnetic permeability closely to magnetic resistance (MR) elements for detecting the magnetic field of a magnetic memory medium on which a magnetic signal has equal interval pitch length.
CONSTITUTION: So as to sense a component (X component) in parallel to the film surface of an MR element in signal magnetic field 4 in magnetism 2 of recording medium 3 on which a magnetic signal has equal interval pitch length (p), MR elements 11 and 12 are arranged in parallel to medium 3 with fixed spacing D.
