Abstract
PURPOSE:To manufacture zinc alloy powder having high mercury concentration on its particle surface in spite of low mercury content by mixing a specified amount of specific materials such as mercury and aluminium with molten zinc, and atomizing the mixture. CONSTITUTION:Zinc alloy powder used as a anode active material for an alkaline dry battery is manufactured by mixing Hg, Al, and Ni and/or Co, or in addition to these elements at least one element selected from In, Pb, Cd, Tl, and Ga are mixed with Zn in a specified ratio. The mercury concentration on the particle surface of zinc alloy is made high in spite of low mercury content, and effect on retarding hydrogen gas evolution is increased. The zinc alloy powder is manufactured in such a way that specified amounts of Hg, Al, and Ni and/or Co, and at least one element selected from elements which increase hydrogen overvoltage such as In are added to molten zinc, and the mixture is stirred to obtain a uniform alloy, and then the alloy is atomized in an atmospheric air.
