Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve discharging property and preservability by adding magnesium oxide or titanium oxide and a paste into evaporated zinc powder in the half dried condition, and pouring electrolyte into the mixture to form a gel zinc negative electrode. CONSTITUTION:An alkali battery is made by placing in a vessel 1 a gel zinc negative electrode 5 together with a black mix body 2 containing silver oxide as a positive electrode active material. The gel zinc negative electrode is prepared by mixing magnesium oxide or titanium oxide and an alkali-resistant paste with evaporated zinc powder in the half dried condition which contains uniformly 0.05-3.0wt% of water, and pouring an alkali electrolyte therein. As adhesive strength between zinc powder and the paste is large, stable and uniform, gel form is obtained only by pouring alkali electrolyte. As the result, the gel zinc negative electrode can be efficiently scaled, and discharging property of a battery can be improved under a heavy load and at a low temperature.
