Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable display with a good contrast by using a color polarizing plate and using a dichromatic dye as a light absorptive material. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal prepd. by adding a chiral material to a nematic liquid crystal having 180 deg.-270 deg. twist angle is sealed between a pair of glass substrates 12 with transparent electrodes and display is executed by impressing an electric field to the part except the display part. The polarizing plate on the lass substrate 12 is the color polarizing plate 11 in this case and the dichromatic dye is used as the light adsorptive material. For example, the panel consists of the blue color polarizing plate 11, the glass plate 12 with transparent electrodes the liquid crystal 13 added with the dichromatic dye, a sealing resin 14 and a neutral gray polarizing plate 15. The black display with the good contrast by the back ground color of the pale gray system is thereby enabled.
