Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a superconducting wire of high quality and of a high critical current density by filling a tubular noble metallic sheath having a noble metal oxide inner surface with a preliminary product and heat-treating them, thereby supplying sufficient oxygen. CONSTITUTION:Mixture of powder of a compound of group IIa element, powder of a compound of group IIIa element, and powder of copper oxide is thoroughly crushed and pressed to form a preliminary product 3. On the other hand, silver sheath 2, inside which silver oxide 1 is formed, is made. The preliminary product 3 is then inserted into a sheath 2 and the diameter of the pipe is reduced to a required value. The sheath is then heat-treated in an oxygen atmosphere to produce an oxide superconductor within the sheath 2. Oxygen is released from a layer 1 during the heat treatment and sufficient amount of oxygen is supplied to the material powder in the course of reaction. Producing the superconductor by making the material powder react in this way, a superconducting wire of high quality with a high critical current density can be obtained.
