Abstract

PURPOSE: To permit a long wire to be obtained continuously and efficiently in a ready and simplified process by sealing balloon-like ceramic powder or metal oxide powder between a core conductor and a metal tape and then carrying out a surface reduction process.
CONSTITUTION: Simultaneously with the feeding of a copper core conductor 1 a copper tape 2 is fed out from one side such as to surround the conductor 1, and it is formed into a U-shaped sectional profile with forming rollers 3. Then, balloon- like ceramic powder 4 is supplied to the gap defined between the tape 2 and the conductor 1 disposed within the U-shaped tape, and then the copper tape 2 is formed into a tubular or rod-like form. The seam is welded in a section 5 to obtain a double-cover composite wire 6. This composite wire 6 is passed through an annealing furnace a where inert gas 8 is circulated and is annealed there by blowing cooling air 10. Since the process is simple and it is possible to provide a great degree of surface reduction, the process can be extremely simplified.
