Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 〔産業上の利用分野〕 本発明は、ガラス繊維等強化プラスチックの超音波加熱
溶着法に関する。
一般に、熱可塑性プラスチックは熱に弱く、温度を上げ
ると溶融する。この性質を利用したプラスチック・フィ
ルムの加熱接着加工が行われ、かかる加熱溶着加工技術
には、熱溶着法、瞬間熱溶着法、ホットジェット、高周
波誘電加熱溶着法および超音波加熱溶着法などが知られ
ている。ところで、本発明は超音波加熱溶着法に関する
ものであるが、周知のごとく、超音波加熱溶着法は、次
のような原理にもとづくものである。すなわち、プラス
チック・フィルムに超音波エネルギを加えると吸収され
加熱溶融される。溶融されたプラスチック・フィルムを
加圧すると溶着させることができる。例えば椀状成形品
の周辺部を溶着しようとすれば、該周辺部端にクサビ形
を突設し、超音波発生装置の振動子を成形品の頂部中央
に押し当て超音波エネルギを加えると、超音波エネルギ
が成形品の内部を伝わり、クサビ形の突起を付けた溶着
部で発熱し、成形品の周辺部全体を溶融し溶着する。
一方、プラスチックのもつ良好な成形性を利用して、か
つ、機械強度、耐熱性、熱膨張特性を改善するため、プ
ラスチック材料にガラス繊維や金属繊維を添加・充填し
ている。その結果、ガラス繊維添加熱可塑性樹脂は、構
造用材料や機械部品における金属材料にとって変わろう
としている。
〔従来の技術およびその問題点〕
従来、ガラス繊維強化プラスチックは超音波による加熱
溶着が行われているが、かかるプラスチックはガラス繊
維等の充填率が低いもの(重量比で約15〜20%)が
対象であり、一方、強度を要求されるガラス繊維強化プ
ラスチックは、ガラス繊維等の充填率が30〜50%に
なっており、かかる充填率の高いプラスチックに対し超
音波加熱溶着を行う場合、従来一般に採用されているよ
うな溶着部に形成されたクサビ形の突起が充填率の高い
ガラス繊維等の影響によって、溶融しにくくなり、完全
な溶着が得られず、そのため、従来の超音波加熱溶着法
では所定の接合強度が得られない。
〔発明の構成〕
本発明は、前記従来技術の問題点を解消するため、重量
比で30%以上のガラス繊維または金属繊維を充填した
プラスチック材からなる第1および第2の部材における
、超音波溶着接合端面の、少なくともいずれか一方に小
突起を形成し、これら接合端面に前記プラスチック材と
同材質のプラスチック・フィルム体または塗布層を介在
させてた後、これら接合端面を超音波によって加熱溶着
する方法でもって、解消するものである。
本発明に用いるプラスチックは、ABS樹脂、ポリカー
ボネート、ポリアセクールナイロン、ポリスチレンなど
が好ましく、また、添加する繊維はガラス繊維ばかりで
はな(、金属繊維、例えばアルミニュム、黄銅、鋼鉄の
短繊維であってもよい。その充填率は、プラスチック成
形性を維持するため、重量比で約50%以下とすること
が好ましい。
以下、本発明の詳細な説明する。第1の実施例は第1図
(イ)に示すごとく、第1の部材1と第2の部材2の超
音波溶着接合端面において、第1の部材lにクサビ形の
突起3を1個形成し、両端雨間にプラスチック・フィル
ム4を介在して、両部材1.2のいずれか一方に振動子
を当接して、両者は圧接する。その結果、第1図の(ロ
)のごとく、溶着成形できる。
第2の実施例は、第2図に示すごとく、第1の実施例の
1個の突起3の代わりに、多数の突起3゜を形成したも
のである。
第3の実施例は、第3図に示すごとく、第1の部材1の
接合端面に多数の突起3”を、第2の部材2の接合端面
に該突起3”が突入する多数の四部5を形成したもので
ある。
第4の実施例は、第4図に示すごとく、第2の実施例の
クサビ形の突起3′の代わりに、断面台形の突起6を多
数成形したものである。
以上いずれの場合も、超音波溶着接合端面に、プラスチ
ック・フィルム4またはプラスチック融液を塗布して、
超音波加熱溶着すれば、突起の溶融により、溶着を補い
所要の接合強度が得られる。
〔発明の効果〕
本発明の効果を代表的な試験例で説明する。すなわち、
第5図に示すごとく、テストピース(a)はナイロン6
6%、ガラス繊維3i%からなり、第1および第2部材
とも厚さ3論の板体で、第1の部材1の接合端面に突起
を設けて超音波加熱溶着したものである。テストピース
(b)は材質および厚さとも同じ材質を用い、再接合端
面間に、厚さ50μ−のナイロンフィルムを介在させて
超音波加熱溶着したものである。いずれの接合面も5×
5m面積で溶着している。ここにおいて、接合強度試験
を行ったところ、次のような結果が得られた。

/請蒙2この試験より、明らかなように、接合強度は本
発明によると7%大ということが判る。
また、この種の接合強度試験を多数行った結果、プラス
チック・フィルムの厚さは、突起の高さと略同等か若干
小であるものが適当で、加えて、繊維添加比が29%以
下の強化プラスチック材であれば、プラスチック・フィ
ルムを介在させるとかえって接合強度が低下する例がみ
られた。
なお、本発明を用いた機械部品としては、各種ベアリン
グ、送風機翼環成形性の特徴を利用できるものはもち論
、内燃機関の各部部品も適当であり、例えば内燃機関の
加熱部品以外の部品に用いれば、軽量化など強化プラス
チックの特徴がいかんなく発揮できるものである。

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 重量比で30%以上のガラス繊維または金属繊維を充填
    した強化プラスチック材からなる第1および第2の部材
    における、超音波溶着接合端面の少なくとiいずれか一
    方に小突起を形成し、これら接合端面に前記プラスチッ
    ク材と同材質のプラスチック・フィルム体または塗布層
    を介在させて後、これら接合端面を超音波によって加熱
    溶着するこを特徴とする繊維添加強化プラスチックの超
    音波溶着法。
