Abstract

PURPOSE: To minimize a loss in the control of refrigerant flow by providing, in the vicinity of the compression chamber of a rotary refrigerant compressor, a control mechanism for restricting the refrigerant flow through an intake passage with the use of pressure of the low pressure side during a refrigeration cycle when the pressure is not high.
CONSTITUTION: In the vicinity of an intake port 16 a passage 19 opened at one end to the atomosphere is communicated with an intake passage 17 and receives therein a slidable valve member 20. When refrigerant pressure in the intake passage 17 drops below a preset pressure, the lower end 20a of the valve member protrudes into the intake passage 17 so that the flow rate of refrigerant in the intake passage 17 is reduced. Further, when the refrigerant pressure in the intake passage 17 drops much more, the protruding length of the valve member 20 also increases so that the cross-section area of the refrigerant flowing therethrough is decreased in the intake passage 17. Since the reduced portion of the refrigerant flow cross-section is extremely close to a compression chamber 11, a loss due to, for example, the endothermic phenomenon of the refrigernat may be minimized.
