Abstract

PURPOSE:To cast a hollow blank material for clad pipes through a single process by forming and joining solidified shells of inside layers synchronously with the speeds of the formation of solidified shells of outside layers and intermittent drawing. CONSTITUTION:Molten metal 4 for an outside layer 4 is teemed by bottom pouring from a holding vessel 2 for outside layer metal into a cooled mold 1 for outside layer, to form an outside layer solidified shell 8 which is drawn intermittently. Inside layer molten metal 10 in a molten metal holding vessel 9 for inside layer metal is teemed by bottom pouring into the cavity of an internally cooled mold 11 in the preceding shell 8 formed in this way, and is held for a prescribed time whereby an inside layer solidified shell 12 is formed and joined on the inside circumferential surface of the shell 8. At this time, the speeds of the formation of the shell 12 and its successive growth are synchronized in conformity with the timings for intermittent drawing of the shell 8. According to this method, a hollow blank material of both neat inside and outside cylindrical surfaces and free from peeling of the adhesion layers for clad pipes is cast continuously with high productivity and the cost of production is lowered.
