Abstract

PURPOSE:To faciitate sliding of a trailing solidified shell in a mold during its drawing, and cast a hollow blank material of neat surfaces stably by supplying a lubricant to the inside circumferential surface of the mold during intermittent drawing of the solidified shell. CONSTITUTION:After drawing of a preceding solidified shell 8 formed in a cooled mold 1, a lubricant such as rapeseed oil or liquid mineral oil is flowed out through plural lubricant supply ports 9 opened at the inside circumferential surface of the mold 1, and is spread on the inside circumferential surface of the mold 1. Thence, molten steel 4 is charged again into the mold 1, and a melt level 4a is moved upward again to form a trailing solidified shell 8' quickly and continuously at the tail end of the preceding shell 8 under intermittent drawing. At this time, the drawing is accomplished smoothly by the effect of the lubricant and therefore the generation of breakout occuring in the failure of the shell 8 and the double surfaces of ingot surface is obviated. According to this method, a hollow blank material of neat surfaces for pipe making is produced continuously with good productivity, and the cost of production is lowered.
