Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the coefft. of friction and make the surface characteristics of an ingot superior by providing liquid lubricant oozing ports on the part of the inside wall surface of a mold below its meniscus and oozing liquid lubricants between the inside surface of the mold and the ingot.
CONSTITUTION: A meltable powder lubricant 3 forms a molten layer 3a on the surface in contact with molten steel 2, and lubricates by flowing into between an ingot 7 and the inside wall surface 1a of the mold. When liquid lubricants 9aW9d are supplied by a liquid lubricant supplying device 10 in the positions below the forming position for meniscus 6, lubrication of the inside wall surface of the mold is accomplished including the layer where the lubricant 3 has solidified after melting, whereby the friction on the inside wall surface of the mold is considerably reduced. Namely, it provides synergistic effect coupled with the lubrication by the metable powder lubricant. Hence, the mold abrasion decreases considerably, and the surface characteristics of the ingot are excellent.
