Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture a high-strength sliding member which is supplied with no oil, by exposing parts of a solid-lubricant-containing metal or alloy and a solid lubricant on the surface of a basic metal to use the surface for sliding.
CONSTITUTION: Graphite powder 1 and a molten solid-lubricant-cantaining metal or alloy 2 are poured into some of the tapered blind holes 5 or tapered through holes 9 of a basic metal 4. After the graphite powder 1 and the metal or alloy 2 are solidified together, a solid lubricant 7 is pressed into the other holes 5 or 9. Bottom plates 6 are provided on the bottoms of the tapered through holes 9 to prevent the solid lubircant 7 from leaking. After the bottom plates 6 are removed, machining is effected along lines A-A, B-B, C-C, D-D to manufacture a sliding member which has a sliding surface whereon parts of the solid-lubricant-containing metal or alloy 10 and the solid lubricant 7 are exposed.
