Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance improvement of mechanical strength without reducing self- lubricating effect by a method wherein a metal or an alloy, etc. containing solid lubricant is cast in a hole made in a solid lubricant substrate and the substrate is cut so that the solid lubricant may be exposed.
CONSTITUTION: Graphite is used, for instance, as a solid lubricating substrate 4 and a hole with a desired depth or a through-taper hole is formed on said graphite substrate 4. The alloy which contains the solid lubricant, for example, molten bronze alloy 2 in which graphite powder 1 is dispersed at 10% by volume is cast into said taper hole 5 and cured. Then, the side of the open part of the taper hole 5 is machined along the A-A line. By this method, a sliding surface 7 is obtained where a metallic surface having dispersed graphite on the surface exists on the substrate 4. Thus, even though large holes are made to facilitate casting operation, dispersed graphite is exposed on the cast surface and desired sliding characteristics can be obtained as a finely oscillating and sliding material.
