Abstract

1,256,069. Casting composite articles. WIDNES FOUNDRY & ENG. CO. Ltd. 3 Jan., 1969 [4 Jan., 1968], No. 603/68. Heading B3F. A method of forming a lined metallic vessel or pipe comprises fabricating a one-piece lining from sheet tantalum, titanium or zirconium, internally supporting the lining, positioning the lining in the form of a core within a mould, and pouring molten metal, e.g. iron, into the mould to form the body of the vessel or pipe. The lining thus becomes metallurgically bonded to the interior of the vessel. The lining may be heated before the metal is poured into the mould and its inner surface may be shielded from the atmosphere by coating it with a suspension of clay in trichloroethylene or by using an'inert gas.
