Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the quality and the productivity of a cast billet by coating refractory heat insulating material contacting with molten metal on peripheral surface of a core and starting drawing of the hollow cast billet enclosing the refractory heat insulating material as cast-in state according to solidifying the molten metal. CONSTITUTION:The core 8 is arranged in the hollow part in a mold 1 and the molten metal 17 is made to flow into an annular passage between the mold 1 and the core 8 to hold it by a moving receiving table 16. Then, in the outer peripheral surface of the core 8, the surface is roughened and the refractory heat insulating ring 19 having irregularity is loosely fitted. When solidified shell 18 develops as casting progresses, at last the solidified shell 18 develops on the refractory heat insulating ring 19 and the ring 19 becomes the cast-in state. Under this condition that the hollow cast billet becomes the cast-in state, the drawing is started together with receiving table 16. As the refractory heat insulating ring 19 is fitted, the development of the solidified shell 18 at the core 8 side is prevented. By this method, the development of defect in the cast billet is prevented, and the quality and the productivity are improved.
