Abstract

1399389 Centrifugal casting processes PONTA-MOUSSON SA 13 Sept 1972 [24 Sept 1971] 42425/72 Heading B3F A metal tube having a composition which varies across the thickness of its wall is made by pouring molten metal into a centrifugal casting mould, rotating the mould, and, before the metal has completely solidified, introducing a molten slag containing an additive for the metal into the mould. The additive contained in the slag layer diffuses into the inner surface layer of the molten metal and thus modifies the composition thereof. Suitable additives include graphite, nitrogen, sulphur, boron, silicon, nickel and chromium. The slag layer is removed after solidification thereof.
