Abstract
PURPOSE:To achieve high-density development with stable picture quality, by forming a magnetic brush on a developing sleeve surface with a developer made of high- resistance magnetic toner and by applying it with an alternating developing bias. CONSTITUTION:In a 10<4>V/cm electric field, >=10<13>cm high-resistance magnetic toner is used to form a magnetic brush, which moves in the peripheral direction of a developing sleeve 7, on the external peripheral surface of the sleeve, and the nap of the brush is restricted by a restricting plate 9 to rub against the surface of a photosensitive drum 1, thereby developing an electrostatic latent image. During the development, an alternating developing bias is applied from a power source 10 through the developing sleeve 7 while the voltage value of the alternating developing bias is so set that the peak value of the electric field between the photosensitive drum 1 and developing sleeve 7 is greater than 4.2V/mum and less than 6.2V/mum.
