During the development, an alternating developing bias is applied from a power source 10 through the developing sleeve 7 while the voltage value of the alternating developing bias is so set that the peak value of the electric field between the photosensitive drum 1 and developing sleeve 7 is greater than 4.2V/mum and less than 6.2V/mum.
