Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the consumption of fuel for heating by heating billets at the heating capacity limits from a certain time before the intended extraction time, and setting the furnace temp. at a target extraction temp. when the billet temp. attains prescribed conditions at the time of heating the billets in a heating furnace thereby controlling the soaking. CONSTITUTION:Plural billets 2 are charged into a heating furnace 1 through its charging port, and while they are heated, they are extracted from an extraction port. The in-furnace positions of the billets 2 are recognized by a tracking device 3, and the furnace temp. signals TA by thermocouples 4 are fed to a billet temp. forecasting device 5, a furnace temp. set value determining device, 7, and a furnace temp. controller 8. In the device 6, the in-furnace positions and intended extraction time of the billets are forecast. In accordance with such data, the billets 2 are heated at the capacity limit of the heating furnace from a certain time before their intended extraction and when the billets 2 attain the billet surface temp. or average temp. preset around the target extration temp. after this, the temp. of the heating furace is so controlled as to attain the target extraction temp. The billets are heated to the target temp. with less fuel.
