Abstract
PURPOSE:To retard the progression of cracking in a heat-resistant roll for a continuous casting device or the like and improve its life by build-up welding one or more kinds of materials of different property values to a steel roll core material then machining the same. CONSTITUTION:A steel roll core material 1 is build-up welded by the 1st overlaying material 2 such as martensite 14 Cr stainless steel or the like and is subjected to rough machining. Thence, the 2nd overlaying material 3 such as austenite 18-8 stainless steel of different properties and components is build-up welded axially, spirally or spottedly theeon, after which the material is subjected to finish machining. Despite the formation of any crack owing to thermal stress or the like with such constitution, the initial cracking occurs at the boundary of the dissimilar materials. Hence, the formation, expansion and progression of the cracking in a circumferential diretion are suppressed, and the progression of cracking is retarded.
