Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a composite steel plate for a damping material having enhanced damping characteristics by holding cast iron having specified carbon equivalent between steel plates of a restricted thickness as surface layer parts followed by cladding.
CONSTITUTION: An inner layer of cast iron having ≥3.0% carbon equivalent (C%+1/3Si%) is held between steel plates as surface layer parts. At this time, the thickness ratio of each surface layer part to the whole composite plate is adjusted to ≥5%. This composite steel plate is obtd. by casting molten steel around cast iron or superposing mechanically worked materials so that the thickness ratio of the surface layer parts to the inner layer part becomes a predetermined value and welding the periphery of the superposed materials. This composite material is heated to a temp. just below the m.p. of the central cast iron layer and hot rolled to join the layers at each interface. Thus, a superior damping material is obtd., facilitating the development of a damping apparatus.
