Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain high fatigue strength without specially finishing a welded joint part, by previously forming a soft surface layer of lower strength than a base material at least at a part equivalent to the reinforced weld end of high-tension steel.
CONSTITUTION: On the entire surface region of a high-tension steel material, especially, at a part equivalent to its reinforced weld end, a built-up part made of a soft steel welding rod, for example, is previously formed and a soft surface layer is further formed of its deposited metal. As a result, the strain variation range of the reinforced weld end of the high-tension steel material can substantially be lowered, and consequently the fatigue life is prolonged to improve the fatigue strength. In addition to the method of forming a soft layer on a high-tension steel material surface, a method of cladding soft steel, surface decarbonizing method, heat treating method, etc., may be used.
