Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the weld crack of a welded joint and decrease residual stress by using weld metal of strength lower than that of base metals in welding near the base metals and using weld metal of strength higher than that of the base metals in the central part of groove.
CONSTITUTION: In butt welding, weld metal 2 of strength lower by about 1W20% than that of base metals 1 is used for welding near the base metals 1 including root pass welding and high-strength weld metal 3 of strength higher by about 1W50% than that of the base metals 1 is used in the central part of the weld metal. Further, the ratio of the mean groove width with respect to the thickness of the base metals 1 is made ≤1 and the ratio of the width of the high-strength weld metal 3 with respect to the thickness of the base metals 1 is made ≥0.05. These decrease the danger of weld crack and make it possible to obtain the welded joint of the tensile strength nearly equivalent to that of the base metals 1.
