Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of stress relief annealing cracks without degrading joint strength by executing buttering welding with a high temp. high strength material of low stress relief annealing crack sensitivity and subjecting the work to preliminary stress relief annealing then to regular welding. CONSTITUTION:In the stage of butt welding of thick low alloy steel plate consisting of >=0.10wt% C, 0.5-2.0% Cr, >=0.3% Mo, >=0.03% V, and the balance Fe and unavoidable impurities, the groove surfaces of said thick steel plate is subjected to build-up welding with a welding material consisting of <0.10 C, 2.0-3.5% Cr, 0.3-1.4% Mo and the balance Fe and unavoidable impurities and to preliminary stress relief annealing, after which it is subjected to regular butt welding with a welding material consisting of <1.0%, C, 2.0-3.5% Cr, 0.3-0.5% Mo, or any one of 0.5-3.5% Cr, 0.5-1.4% Mo, or 0.1-0.50% V, and the balance Fe and unavoidable impurities, followed by stress relief annealing.
