Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform welding without conducting process annealing and without causing transverasl crack, by specifying, in welding very thick Cr-Mo alloy steel plate or high tensile steel plate, the relation between the max. content of diffused hydrogen in, and max. hardness of, welded metal.
CONSTITUTION: Very thick plate of Cr-Mo alloy steel or high tensile steel of tensile strength of not lower than 80 kg/mm2 is welded under the conditions where the max. hardness Hv and the max. content of diffused hydrogen Hc of the weld zone satisfy the following relation: Hv ≤ 363 - 83 log Hc. This method makes possible multi-layer build-up welding without producing transversal crack, in addn., it makes process annealing unnecessary so that welding cost and working term are reduced. This method prevents also deterioration in performance, such as decrease in strength, of weld zone due to process annealing.
