Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve stress corrosion cracking resistance characteristic by welding the pipe inside surface side of butt parts with welding material of lower strength then welding the remaining outer side with welding material having strength higher than that of said welding material while cooling the pipe inside.
CONSTITUTION: In the case of butt welding steel pipes 1 of high tension steel, low alloy steel, austenite base stainless steel, etc., the pipe inside surface side of the butt part of the steel pipes 1 is welded with welding material of strength lower than that of base metals. Thence, while cooling the pipe inside by flowing cooling medium into the pipes, the outer side surfaces of the remaining butt part is welded. In this case, welding material 3 of strength higher than that of the foregoing welding material 2, or welding material of preferably 3kg/mm2 or more in strength differences thereof or welding material having strength equivalent to that of base metals is used.
