Abstract

PURPOSE: To perfectly prevent the inner surface of the pipe from generation of the stress corrosion cracking, by carrying out the overlay welding all over the outer surface of the pipe corresponding to the sensitized zone of the parent metal, after carrying out the overlay welding for the inner surface of the pipe like as the piping material, etc., under cooling of the inner surface of the pipe, including the sensitized zone, caused by above overlay welding, of the parent metal at the toe of overlay weld and the overlaid zone.
CONSTITUTION: The overlay welding 4 with the corrosion resisting material is applied to the parent metal 1 of the inner surface of the pipe; then, the overlay welding 7 is carried out with the welding torch all over the outer surface of the pipe located just above the sensitized zone 5 at the toe of overlay weld. On the other hand, while this overlay welding work, water supplied from the arrowed direction, is sprayed through the spray purger 8, over the portion including the initial overlay weld zone 4 and the sensitized zone 5. A temperature gradient is caused between the inner and outer surfaces depending on the overlay welding for the outer surface of the pipe under water cooling of the inner surface of the pipe; this temperature gradient causes a largt residual compression stress at the sensitized zone 5 of the parent metal of the toe of overlay weld in the inner surface of the pipe.
