Abstract

The invention relates to hot-rolled, thermally work-hardened reinforcing steel having a minimum yield strength of 500 MPa and universal suitability for welding in the dimensional range of 6 to 32 mm nominal diameter. The aim of the invention is the processing of scrap contaminated with Cr, Cu, Mo and Ni to give high-quality reinforcing steel. The object is to indicate an alloy composition which allows the alloy contaminations to be utilised for improving the use value in place of the addition of Si and Mn, hitherto provided in industry. The object is achieved by deviating from the standard prescription of an alloy tolerance for Si and Mn and lower permissible limits for Cr, Cu, Mo and Ni and, instead, weighting and limiting the total alloy influence of Si, Mn, Cr, Cu, Mo and Ni and allowing large tolerances for the individual elements, it being permissible for individual elements to be present in any desired quantity and combination within the new limits, while adhering to the value for the alloy equivalent and hence also for the total alloy influence on the yield strength, in accordance with the claim.
