Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a cold Pilger mandrel steel with superior strength and toughness by adding a specified amount of alloying elements such as Cr, Mo, V and Nb to steel.
CONSTITUTION: This mandrel steel contains 0.60W0.90% C, 0.1W0.5% Si, 0.1W 0.5% Mn, 3.0W6.5% Cr, 0.5W2.0% Mo, 0.3W0.8% V and 0.03W0.10 Nb. Since this steel has superior strength and toughness and can be hot worked easily by forging, pressing, rolling or other method, it is suitable for use as a mendrel material for a cold Pilger press drawing machine.
