Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce the unmodified high-strength, high-toughness steel of superior base metal and welded part by subjecting the continuously cast slab of the steel of extremely small S contents and added with Ca, Ti in combination to heating and controlled-rolling at the specific temperatures.
CONSTITUTION: The low S steel containing C; 0.01W0.15%, Si<0.6%, Mn; 0.5W 2.0%, Al; 0.01W0.08%, S<0.004%, Ca. 0.0005W0.005%, Ti; 0.008W0.025%, N; 0.001W0.007% or further one or two or more kinds of Nb<0.08%, V<0.10%, Ni<2.0%, Cu<1.0%, Cr<1.0%, Mo<0.4% is cast to a slab of 300mm or less in thickness by a continuous casting process. This slab is heated to 900W1,000°C and is hot-rolled. At this time, it is subjected to the controlled-rolling under 60% or more of draft at 850°C or less and its finishing temperature is held at 650W750°C whereby the strength and toughness are considerably improved.
