Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce wire rods of high grade efficiently at low cost, by drawing martensitic wire rod obtained by controlled cooling after hot rolling, by means of roller dies, thus omitting descaling and hardening process.
CONSTITUTION: A wire rod, after hot rolling, is forced-cooled in water or the like rapidly to 700°C or less, and then controlled-cooled to obtain martensite structure. This wire rod has only a thin scale and can be excellently drawn, without requiring descaling process, by means of roller dies. The composition of steel wire for obtaining martensitic wire rod of high strength should preferably consist of C: 0.10W 0.40% Si: 0.05W1.50% Mu: 0.70W2.50% Cr: 0.10W1.50%, and either one or two of Mo: 0.05W0.50% and B: 0.0002W0.0050%, and the remainder of Fe and impurities.
