Abstract
PURPOSE:To manufacture nonmagnetic steel material having very low magnetic property, high yield ratio and high proportional limit ratio, by the solution treatment of high Mn steel having been hot rolled so as to austenize its structure at ordinary temp., then after cold rolling by imparting tensile force under specific conditions. CONSTITUTION:High Mn steel contg. 0.2-1.5% C, 4-25% Mn, 0.1-2.0% Si, or contg. in addition, 0.1-10% Cr, is hot rolled. The steel is either cooled as it is from high temp. so that no coarse carbide which inhibits the cold rolling property may be precipitated, or the steel having been cooled after hot rolling is reheated to a temp. at which carbon makes solid solution sufficiently, then cooled so that no coarse carbide may be precipitated, thereby forming austene structure excellent in toughness. The material is further cold rolled, and heated to a temp. 200-700 deg.C in order to apply tensile force of a load smaller than the tensile breaking load of the steel material. Hereby nonmagnetic steel having high yield ratio, high proportional limit ratio and desired toughness is manufactured.
