Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the hardness and thickness of a wear-resistant steel stock for various members particularly for civil engineering and construction machinery, by subjecting a steel with a specific composition to hot rolling and hardening under respectively specified conditions. CONSTITUTION:A steel consisting of, by weight, 0.20-0.45% C, 0.10-1.50% Si, 0.60-2.50% Mn, 0.60-2.00% Cr, 0.010-0.080% Al, 0.010-0.100% Nb, 0.0010-0.0060% B, <=0.01% Ca, and the balance Fe is used. This steel is hot- rolled at a temp. in a region between 900 deg.C and the Ar3 transformation point at >=15% draft and sucessively hardened from a temp. of the Ar3 transformation point or above. In the above steel components, Nb is an important element and has the effect of facilitating grain refining in the course of rolling and the accumulation of rolling strain by widening the nonrecrystallization region. When the above draft is >=15%, the degree of grain refining and the accumulation of working strain are increased and a hardening effect is improved. By this method, high hardness advantageous to wear resistance can be obtained even in the case of a thick-walled steel stock.
