Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the bending and cracking of a roll by providing a heat insulating layer between a roll core material and a sleeve and making the sleeve elongative and contractive in its axial direction. CONSTITUTION:An annular gap is provided between a roll core material 1 and a thermal cracking resistant sleeve 2 inserted onto said material, and only the one end part of the sleeve 2 is joined and welded to the material 1. A heat insulating material 3 and a reinforcing ring 6 made of steel are packed into the annular gap, and a ring-like cap 4 is put on and is joined and secured to the material 1 alone by welding. Grooves 7 are cut in the axial direction at four places on the circumference in the end part of the sleeve 2 in such a way that bolts 5 tightening the sleeve 2 can be mounted to the cap 4. In the grooves 7, the sleeve is tightened by means of the bolts and washers 5' so that the material 3 does not dissipate to the outside. Long grooves 9 are cut to the sleeve 2 in the axial direction of the roll, and the sleeve is made elongative and contractive along the grooves 9 in accordance with the rise and fall of temps.
