Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve heat resistant stability and age stability of orientation and to obtain a display device of a long life by providing a coating layer of polyimide contg. TiO2 on the surfaces of >=1 sheets of electrodes of two sheets of electrode plates. CONSTITUTION:A coating soln. prepd. by mixing a soln. of a polyamide acid obtained by condensation of 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl or the like and pyromellitic acid anhydride with a soln. of tetrabutyl titanate or the like is coated on electrode plates having transparent electrodes. Thence, the plates are heated to about 300 deg.C, and a polyimide film contg. TiO2 is formed on their surfaces. The polyimide film is rubbed in one direction with a cloth and is thereby oriented. A cell is assembled by using such oriented electrode plates, and a nematic liquid crystal having positive dielectric anisotropy is sealed thereon. Polarizing plates are stuck together on the outer side of the cell, whereby a display device is made. In this way, the display device of a long life which does not cause degradation in orientation characteristics despite heat sealing at the sealing of the liquid crystal is obtained.
