Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the occurrence of a strain in a glass member and join the glass member to a metallic member firmly, by attaching a glass soldering material to a surface to be joined of the metallic member, pressing the glass member to the surface, uniformly heating the members, and locally heating the metallic member.
CONSTITUTION: In soldering a metallic cap 2 to a glass tube 1, a glass soldering material 4 is previously baked in an engaging groove 3 of the metallic cap 2. The metallic cap 2 is then placed and pressed to the end of the glass tube 1 and heated uniformly by an infrared heater 6 in an infrared heating furnace 5 to soften the glass soldering material 4. A gas burner 7 is then ignited to heat the outer surface on the engaging groove 3 of the metallic cap 2 locally. The glass soldering material 4 is molten to wet the end of the glass tube 1. The glass tube 1 is then taken out of the furnace 5 and cooled. Thus, the flowing down of the glass soldering material 4 is prevented, and the glass soldering can be carried out in a short time.
