Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the cutting sealing by nipping the exhaust tube with a pair of heated metal nipping jaws, and melting the neck with Joule heat gnerated by passing an electric current between the jaws in the process of softening and deforming of the exhaust tube.
CONSTITUTION: A pair of metal nipping jaws 3 are faced to the cutting sealing part 2a of the exhaust tube 2 of a bulb 1 filled with a pressured gas. The jaws 3 and the cutting sealing part 2a are heated with burners 4 and burners 5 respectively, and the jaws 3 are brought near to press elastically the cutting sealing part 2a. The temperature of the cutting sealing part 2a is rapidly elevated by passing a heating current to the jaws 3 from a power source 6 just before contact of the cutting sealing part 2a to seal the part with melted glass. The slow leakage is prevented even with a gas pressure of more than atmospheric pressure in the exhaust tube 2, and the cutting sealing work is improved.
