[Class 38(iii)] Apparatus suitable for carrying out the method of the Specification 616,251 comprises electrodes A and a concentrator C supported inside the article to be heated V and opposite the electrodes which are supported outside the article. The concentrator is heated by resistance heating to preheat the article before dielectric heating, and the resistance heating may be continued during dielectric heating to bring the temperature of the article to the desired level at which moulding, cutting or welding may be carried out. In a modification the electrode A may act as a resistance heater having a form shown in Fig. 7.
