Abstract
PURPOSE:To avoid the lowering of the mechanical strength, by heating again a melt-stuck connection part in order to get rid of the thermal distortion remaining at the melt-stuck connection part of an optical fiber which is caused by the discharge arc. CONSTITUTION:A coated layer 2A of an optical fiber 2 is eliminated at the edge part to obtain an element 2B. Two pieces of such element B are butted to be melt- stuck and connected together by the discharge arc. Then the periphery of the connection part of such elements 2B is heated again by an oxyhydrogen flame burner 6. For the temperature distribution of the burner 6, the connection part is set at a temperature higher than the softening point with a temperature slope which lowers gradually toward the axes of both sides and centering on the connection part. Plural pieces of the discharge electrode aligned in parallel can be used in place of a burner.
