Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable a single apparatus to perform drying, dry distillation, and burning of the abandoned ion exchange resin which has been used for the solution treatment in nuclear power station and other facilities wherein radioactive materials are handled by using micorwave heating even though the resin is wet. CONSTITUTION:In treating the material to be treated such as radioactive ion exchange resin and the like, it is supplied into a treating device 4 from a feeding hole 6 together with a material, which can be fused by heating and solidified, e.g. such as fused materials of ach, glass, metal piece, and the like, and a microwave generator 1 is operated. Then the microwave is transmitted to the treating device 4 through a waveguide 3 having a radioactive-material counter-flow blocking plate 2, and heats and burns the material to be treated. The burning is expedited by the heat from the difused material and the self-heat generated from the material to be treated. A burning air hole 7 and an igniting burner flame hole 8 may be provided in the treating device 4 as necessary and the burning may be expedited. The burnt material is exhausted from the residuum exhausting hole 13.
