Abstract
PURPOSE: To join members with a bonding resistant to a thermal shock, e.g. rapid heating or quenching, by engaging the members to be joined to a ring member having the inside diameter equal to or smaller than the outside diameter of the members by the thermal fit, permeating molten glass through the engaged surface, and soldering both members.
CONSTITUTION: Two members 1 and 2 of the same diameter for joining consisting of a mild steel are joined by the overlap slip joining method. A mild steel ring joining member 3 having the inside diameter equal to or smaller than that the outside diameter of the members 1 and 2 for the joining and a through-hole 4 in the center of the side thereof is heated at about 600°C by a burner 5 and expanded. The members 1 and 2 for the joining are then inserted from both ends of the ring member 3 therein. A glass soldering powder 6 is then fed to the through-hole 4 of the member 3, and the whole part to be joined is heated by the burner 5 to melt the glass soldering powder 6, permeate the resultant melt through the through-hole 4 to the surface 7 to be engaged and wet the whole surface 7. The heating is then stopped to cool and join both members 1 and 2 for joining with the joining member 3 gastight.
