Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily and surely join ceramics and metal without generating cracks in the ceramics by using a specific alloy as a joining material for ceramics and metal. CONSTITUTION:The alloy having the compsn. consisting, by weight, of 2-10% Mg, 5-13% Si, 0.1-2% active metal and the balance Al is used as the joining material 3. The joining material 3 makes solid phase reaction or melts when the joining material 3 is held in place between the ceramics 1 and the joining metal 2 and these materials are heated and pressed. The reaction phase of mainly the Mg in the joining material 3 and the ceramics 1 is formed at the boundary face of the ceramics 1 and the joining material 3 at this time so that the joining material 3 is wet with the ceramics 1. The reaction phase of mainly the Si in the joining material 3 and the joining metal 2 is formed at the boundary face of the joining metal 2 and the joining material 3 so that the joining material 3 is wet with the joining metal 2. The ceramics 1 and the joining metal 2 are thereby securely joined.
