Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound advantageously, by reacting a 1-alkyl-2- halopyridinium salt with nicotinic acid in the presence of a tertiary amine salt, followed by reacting the reaction product with 2,2,6,6,-tetramethylol cyclohexanol.
CONSTITUTION: A compound shown by the formula I (R is lower alkyl; X is halogen; A is halogen, alkylsulfate, arylsulfate) is reacted with a compound shown by the formula II in the presence of a tertiary amine salt, to give a compound shown by the formula III. This compound is reacted with a compound shown by the formula IV in the presence of the same amine salt or a different amine salt to give a compound shown by the formula V. By this method, the compound shown by the formula V useful as a drug, e.g., cholesterol lowering agent, vasodilator, etc. can be obtained at relatively low temperature and for a short time (usually at 0W85°C for about 3W16hr) in high yield and in high purity.
