CONSTITUTION: A compound shown by the formula I (X is halogen; Z is protecting group) is reacted with 1,2-epoxy-2-methyl-3-butene shown by the formula II under usual Grignard reaction conditions, to give an ω-hydroxy coenzyme Q1 derivative shown by the formula III useful as an intermediate for coenzymes Q having activities in organisms, especially coenzyme Q10.
