Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce titled polymer useful as an antitumoric agent, by reacting a specified reactive polymer with a cytotoxic substance containing an amino or imino group in the molecule.
CONSTITUTION: A reactive polymer, polymerization degree 5W3,000, consisting of at least 60mol% structural units of formula I, wherein Z is H or a monovalent cation and m is 1W4, and having, on the carboxyl terminal groups of its main chains, active goups of formula II, wherein X is H or a group capable of forming an active disulfide group together with the S atom, W is a bivalent organic group and R1 is H or a 1W4C alkyl, is reacted with a cytotoxic substance containing an amino or imino group in the molecule, e.g., mitomycin C, in an organic solvent at -40W100°C for 10minW10days to obtain a reactive polymer, polymerization degree 5W3,000, consisting of at least 60mol% structural units of formulas I and III, wherein Y is the amino or imino residue of a cytotoxic substance and m is 1W4, and containing active groups of formula II on the carboxyl groups of the main chains.
