Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a silyl-terminated polymer capable of adhering to substrates and useful as an elastic sealant, by reacting a polyether or polyester containing a specified terminal group in the main chain with a specified silicon hydride compound.
CONSTITUTION: A polyester or polyether containing, on average, at least one bond unit selected from the members represented by formulasI, II and III, wherein RI is a 1W20C bivalent organic group and having at least one silicon group of formula VI is produced by reacting a polyether or polyester containing, on the molecular terminals, at least 70%, based on the number of the total terminal groups, group represented by formula IV, where RII is H or a 1W20C monovalent organic group, RIII is a 1W20C bivalent organic group and c is 0 or 1, with a silicon hydride compound represented by formula V, wherein X is a hydrolyzable group and m is 0W18. As the silicon hydride compounds represented by formula V, there can be mentioned trimethylsiloxydichlorosilane and trimethylsiloxymethyl-acetoxysilane.
