Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a high-MW polycarbonate-urea which can easily form transparent flexible films, fibers, etc., by reacting a diamine with a diisocyanate compound contaning carbonate bonds in the molecule.
CONSTITUTION: A diisocyanate compound of the formula I, wherein Ar1 and Ar2 are each a group of formula II or III etc., wherein R1 and R2 are each or a 1W5C lower alkyl, a halogen or an alkoxy, is reacted with a diamine of formula IV, to form a poycarbonate-urea of formula V, wherein n is the degree of polymerization. The polycarbonate-urea thus-produced has such a high MW that it can be easily converted into films or fibers. Furthermore, it is soluble in a variety of solvents such as dimethyl sulfoxide and dimethylformamide.
