Abstract

PURPOSE: To permit the regeneration of a heat-resistant filter by burning for making the remove of fine particles easier by contacting an alkali metal compound with fine particles present in the exhaust gas being collected on the filter.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution of an alkali metal compound, e.g., hydroxide of oxide or Li, Na, Ca, etc., is impregnated and adhered on the surface of a heat-resistant filter 4 consisting of a steel wool-packed material or ceramic porous material, being provided to an exhaust pipe 3. Fine particles, e.g., carbon particles, present in exhaust gas are arrested by the heat-resistant filter 4, whereupon the fine particles takes fire and are burned when the temperature of the filter 4 heated by waste heat reaches a given temperature, whereby eliminating the blinding of the filter 4. The temperature of ignition is lowered and the burning speed is also accelerated by the alkali metal compound. Also, the alkali metal compound may be jetted from a supplier.
