Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain an exhaust-gas cleaning filter capable of removing fine particles in the exhaust gas of an automotive engine by burning the particles through utilizing solely the heat energy of the exhaust gas, by a method wherein a molybdate or a mixture of molybdenum oxide and a metal oxide is used as a catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: An inorganic support is impregnated with an aqueous solution of K2MoO4 or the like and is dried, or the support is immersed into a slurry consisting of a mixture of MoO3 and a metal oxide such as Li2O and is fired, to obtain a filter medium. The filter medium is fitted in a filter container, and the container is fitted to an exhaust pipe for a diesel engine of an automobile or is connected to an exhaust manifold. Accordingly, the fine particles in the exhaust gas can be made to be harmless by burning them at a lower temperature and at a higher efficiency, as compared to the prior arts, and the amount of fine particles accumulated onto the filter is reduced.
