Abstract

PURPOSE:To manufacture a catalyst which has a high removing efficiency for NOx, CO and hydrocarbon, by causing a porous carrier comprising prescribed quantities of Al2O3 and MgO and spinel (MgAl2O4) and an oxide of V.Mo or W to carry Pt or Pd. CONSTITUTION:A porous carrier, which comprises spinel (MgAl2O4), 25% or less of Al2O3 25% or less of MgO as to the quantity of the spinel respectively and an oxide of V.Mo or W, is caused to carry Pt or V by a conventional method, thereby obtain a catalyst. Strength and durability of the catalyst at high-temperature are high. The catalyst can simultaneously remove NOx, Co and hydrocarbon of exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine which is run at an air fuel ratio (weight ratio of air to gasoline supplied into the engine) of about 13.5-15.5 in particular.
