Abstract
PURPOSE:To manufacture a catalyst for cleaning NOx, CO, etc., present in the exhaust gas, having a highly efficient cleaning capability, at low cost by depositing platinum, palladium, etc., on a porous sintered body consisting of magnesia, alumina, iron oxide, etc., as a carrier. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of alumina-magnesia spinel (MgAl3O4), Al2O3, and MgO, together with any one or both of iron oxide and manganese oxide, or cerium oxide, etc., in which the amount of Al2O3 and MgO is 25wt% or less on the basis of the spinel, is molded into a desired shape and then heated to obtain a porous sintered body. Then, the sintered body as a carrier is deposited with a catalyst component composed of any one or both of platinum and palladium in order to manufacture a cleaning catalyst capable of removing hydrocarbons, NOx, CO, etc., present in the exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine, etc., having excellent high-temperature strength and durability, at low cost.
